The Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology (ASSCAT) joined key agencies and partner institutions in the Stakeholders’ Forum on Soil Testing Protocols and Information Systems held on December 3–5, 2025, at the Datu Lipus Makapandong Covered Court, Gov. D.O. Plaza Government Center, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur. 

The event also marked World Soil Day, emphasizing the importance of soil health in sustainable agriculture as the province take part in the global celebration.

The opening program was graced by Hon. Santiago B. Cane Jr., Provincial Governor of Agusan del Sur, and Hon. Adolph Edward G. Plaza, 2nd District Representative, who both highlighted the importance of strengthening soil health initiatives for agricultural productivity and sustainability. Several heads of offices and sectoral leaders were also present, reflecting a strong multi-agency commitment to improving soil testing protocols and information systems in the region.

Representing ASSCAT were College President Dr. Joy C. Capistrano, Dr. Carmelo S. Llanto, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Quality Assurance, and Dr. Ferdinand A. Dumalagan, Vice President for Research, Innovation, Development and Extension Affairs. Also present were Atty. Eric Lindbergh Innovejas, Center Chief of the Soil Health and Crop Science Research Institute, and Mr. Leandreux D. Ocasion, In-charge of the Crops and Soils Laboratory, who delivered a talk on the importance of crop nutrient indices for fertilizer recommendations.

International speakers from Griffith University also shared their expertise during the forum. Prof. Chengrong Chen discussed principles of soil testing and information systems, while Dr. Orpheus M. Butler presented emerging trends in soil testing and agri-environmental analysis.

The forum served as an important platform for collaborative learning, partnership building, and strengthening efforts toward sustainable, research-driven agricultural development.
