The Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology (ASSCAT), through its Center of Agri–Food Processing and Innovation, conducted the Food Clinic and Expo 2025 on December 15 in support of local food-based Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), contributing to inclusive economic growth and innovation in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The activity addressed key challenges faced by food MSMEs, particularly in product development, commercialization, and market readiness, by providing direct access to technical experts and government support agencies. Through knowledge sharing and practical engagement, the initiative contributes to SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by strengthening enterprise capabilities, and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) by promoting research-driven food innovation.

The program featured a Lecture Series that included “Concepts to Commercialization: The Stages of Food Product Development,” led by Dr. Mariero H. Gawat, DOST Science and Technology Fellow, and Marie Kris Delarmente, Provincial Director of DOST Agusan del Sur, emphasizing science-based approaches to product development. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Agusan del Sur discussed networking and mentorship as catalysts for entrepreneurial development, supporting SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through inter-agency collaboration. Engr. Michael M. Sabugaa, Director of ASSCAT Research and Creative Works, presented the College’s research initiatives on food, reinforcing the role of higher education institutions in innovation ecosystems.

The event also marked the ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between ASSCAT and Nueva Era Elementary School for Project EDUKALIDAD, strengthening institutional linkages that advance SDG 4 (Quality Education) through collaborative educational initiatives.

The activity concluded with a food clinic and consultation session, where MSMEs engaged directly with the ASSCAT Food Innovation Center (FIC) Team for technical guidance on product improvement, food safety, and commercialization, further supporting SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) by promoting quality, safety, and sustainability in food products.

Through the Food Clinic and Expo 2025, ASSCAT reaffirmed its commitment to advancing research, extension, and innovation that support community development, MSME growth, and sustainable agri-food systems.
