RUN WITH JOY: In Support to The 18-Day Campaign to End VAWC
Bunawan, Agusan del Sur – July 17, 2026 — In observance of National Disaster Resilience Month 2026, the Agusan del Sur State University (ADSSU) Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Office successfully conducted a whole-day Fire Safety Orientation and Disaster Risk Cycle Seminar on Friday, July 17, 2026, reinforcing the University’s commitment to building a culture of safety, preparedness, and resilience among its stakeholders.
The morning sessions were facilitated by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Bunawan, covering essential topics on The Chemistry of Fire, LPG Safety, and the Proper Operation of Fire Extinguishers. Participants also engaged in a Fire Extinguisher Simulation Exercise, allowing them to apply the techniques discussed during the lectures. Discussions on the Phases of an Earthquake and a Controlled Fire Evacuation Drill further enhanced participants’ readiness in responding to emergency situations.
In the afternoon, Mr. Arean A. Amero, MDRRMO Assistant Head, discussed the Four Phases of the Disaster Management Cycle, emphasizing institutional preparedness, mitigation, response, recovery, and risk awareness as fundamental components of effective disaster management.
The seminar concluded with a discussion on Armed Conflict and Bomb Threat Preparedness by PSSg Jandolph A. Trazo, MCAD PNCO, providing participants with practical guidance on responding to security-related emergencies within the campus.
Through initiatives such as this, ADSSU continues to strengthen its disaster preparedness programs and cultivate a culture of resilience, ensuring that students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders are equipped to respond effectively to emergencies while promoting a safe and secure learning environment. The activity also supports the University’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being by promoting safety and emergency preparedness, SDG 4: Quality Education through disaster risk reduction education and capacity-building, and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities by fostering disaster resilience and preparedness within the university community.
