BUNAWAN, AGUSAN DEL SUR — A new chapter in the history of the Agusan del Sur State University (ADSSU) unfolded as the University held its 1st Commencement Exercises, celebrating the academic achievements, perseverance, and aspirations of its graduates.
More than a ceremony marking the completion of their academic journey, the historic occasion served as a testament to the graduates’ years of hard work and determination. It also marked a significant milestone for ADSSU as it continues to advance its mandate of providing accessible, relevant, and quality higher education responsive to the needs of Agusan del Sur and its communities.
At the center of the celebration were the ADSSU graduates, whose years of learning, challenges, and accomplishments culminated in the long-awaited conferral of their degrees. Surrounded by their families, friends, faculty members, university officials, and guests, the graduates officially turned the page from students to professionals and future leaders ready to make meaningful contributions in their chosen fields.
Serving as Guest of Honor and Commencement Speaker, Hon. Adolph Edward “Eddiebong” G. Plaza, Representative of the 2nd District of Agusan del Sur, inspired the graduates to pursue their aspirations with purpose and embrace the opportunities ahead. He also underscored the vast potential of agriculture as a field for innovation, economic growth, and community development, encouraging the graduates to contribute to its advancement and help shape a more progressive and sustainable agricultural sector.
Adding distinction to the historic celebration was the conferment of the Honorary Doctorate Degree of Doctor of Agriculture (Honoris Causa) upon Hon. Plaza, recognizing his contributions to agriculture, public service, and the development of Agusan del Sur.
The ceremony was further graced by Hon. Myrna Q. Mallari, Commissioner of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), who conveyed her congratulatory message to the graduates. Joining her was Dr. Nelia A. Alibin, Regional Director of the Commission on Higher Education–Caraga, whose presence underscored the significance of the milestone for ADSSU and the higher education sector in the region.
As the 1st Commencement Exercises of ADSSU came to a close, the occasion left a lasting mark not only on the graduates but also on the institution itself. For the graduates, it was the culmination of one journey and the beginning of another. For ADSSU, it was a historic step forward in its continuing journey as a university.
