In a recent interview on “What’s the Point?”, Congressman Adolph Edward “Eddiebong” Plaza, Doctor of Agriculture (Honoris Causa), highlighted a challenge that goes beneath the surface of Philippine agriculture: understanding and treating our soil based on its actual condition.

The discussion puts into perspective why Soil Science matters—from understanding soil conditions and nutrient requirements to making farming more science-based and responsive to local needs.

This direction aligns with Agusan del Sur State University’s vision as a University for Sustainable Agriculture and Innovation, with Bachelor of Science in Agriculture – Soil Science (BSA Soil Science) now among its newly offered programs, alongside its other agriculture fields.

In the interview, Congressman Plaza also discussed the importance of strengthening Soil Science at ADSSU as part of addressing agricultural needs and preparing the next generation of agricultural professionals.

His contributions to agriculture and the development of the University were also recognized by ADSSU through the conferment of a PhD in Agriculture (Honoris Causa)—the first of its kind awarded in the entire Philippines.
