The Agusan del Sur State University (ADSSU) has earned regional distinction after its student-led project, “Kahimunan Tu ADSSU: Agro-Tourism Innovation and Incubation Center,” was named Regional Winner for Caraga Region in the Tourism Start-Up Challenge 2025.

The project will represent the region at the National Vetting and Awarding Ceremony on May 11–12, 2026 in Metro Manila, where finalists will present their tourism innovation proposals.

Developed by students Keneth John Burdeos (BS Biology), Mary Jean Valerio (BTLEd-HE), Jenny P. Otero (ABEL), Khrystina Abrio (BS Biology), Felimon Daga-ang (BS Biology) and Johanter Helarion (BSA-Agro) under the guidance of Mr. Boylen B. Cabag, Engr. Janice C. Puspos, and Mr. John Paul A. Camino, the proposal transforms ADSSU’s agricultural facilities into an integrated agro-tourism innovation and incubation hub.

In a meeting held on April 28, 2026, ADSSU President Dr. Joy C. Capistrano congratulated the team and expressed full institutional support for their participation in the national stage.

The initiative reimagines the university’s farm spaces into a learning and tourism destination featuring demonstration farms, eco-trails, interactive crop stations, and digital visitor systems. It also establishes a start-up incubation hub for agri-based tourism enterprises and community livelihood projects.

Aligned with the Tourism Start-Up Challenge 2025 priorities, the project integrates technology, research, tourism education, and enterprise development, positioning ADSSU as a model for sustainable agro-tourism in Mindanao.

Beyond competition, the project highlights student-led innovation as a driver of rural tourism development and community empowerment under the National Tourism Development Plan 2023–2028.
