The Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology (ASSCAT) has officially been granted university status by the Commission on Higher Education(CHED), formally converting the institution into the Agusan del Sur State University (ADSSU).

The recognition was approved through Commission En Banc Resolution No. 060-2026, where CHED qualified ASSCAT for the grant of university status after successfully meeting the commission’s institutional requirements.

The conversion was made possible through House Bill No. 7019, authored by Hon. Adolph Edward G. Plaza, Representative of the 2nd District of Agusan del Sur. The measure was then enacted into Republic Act No. 11586, which mandated the conversion of ASSCAT into a state university subject to compliance with the standards set by CHED.

Following the enactment of the law, the institution underwent a rigorous process of evaluation to ensure full compliance with the requirements of the Commission on Higher Education.

The university community expressed its gratitude to Hon. Adolph Edward G. Plaza (Team Eddiebong) for sponsoring the legislative measure, as well as to Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis, CHED Chairperson, Dr. Myrna Q. Mallari, CHED Commissioner, the members of the Commission En Banc, and the CHED offices including the Office of Institutional Quality Assurance and Governance (OIQAG) and the Office of Programs and Standards Development (OPSD) for their guidance and support throughout the evaluation process.

Appreciation was likewise extended to the Commission on Higher Education – Caraga Regional Office and the CHED Composite Team for their invaluable guidance during the institution’s transition. The university also acknowledged the collective efforts of the ASSCAT community—especially the Technical Working Group, the secretariat, and all faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders—whose dedication and commitment made the successful conversion possible.

With the approval, Agusan del Sur State University now enters a new chapter in advancing higher education, research, and community development in Agusan del Sur and the Caraga Region.
