Members of the Lapinigan Agro-Farmers Livelihood Association (LAFLA) marked a milestone on April 1, 2026, as they successfully conducted the harvest of their Tilapia Production Project. Led by Ms. Crystie Quilaman, the association spearheaded the activity with technical guidance and support from Agusan del Sur State University (ADSSU) through its community extension services.

The harvest was witnessed by ADSSU President Dr. Joy Capistrano, Vice President for Research, Innovation, Development and Extension Affairs Dr. Ferdinand Dumalagan, and Extension Services Director Boylen B. Cabag, who reaffirmed the University’s commitment to community empowerment and sustainable development.

“As a state university, one of our core functions is to extend our technologies and knowledge to communities. Projects like this embody our mission to uplift local livelihoods, enhance food security, and strengthen partnerships that drive sustainable rural development,” said Dr. Capistrano.

As part of the initiative, ADSSU facilitated technology transfer to LAFLA, including the provision of an aerator system for tilapia production. This innovation is expected to improve water quality management, increase fish survival, and boost overall yield, directly supporting the association’s capacity to generate stable income and contribute to local food supply.

Ms. Quilaman expressed her gratitude to the University, emphasizing the positive impact of the project on the association’s livelihood and the community at large. “This support empowers our members, improves our production efficiency, and strengthens our ability to sustain our livelihoods,” she said.

The collaboration reflects ADSSU’s ongoing efforts to advance sustainable development goals by promoting economic opportunity, ensuring access to nutritious food, and fostering strong partnerships between the University and the community. Through initiatives like the Tilapia Production Project, ADSSU continues to demonstrate its commitment to responsive extension services and community growth, reinforcing its role as a catalyst for resilience and sustainable rural development.
