Blending environmental conservation with digital innovation, the Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology (ASSCAT) has officially launched its Tree Identification (Tree ID) tagging, installing QR-coded tags on trees across the campus to provide instant access to species information.

Selected trees across the college grounds are now fitted with QR-coded tags, allowing students, faculty, and visitors to simply scan the codes with their smartphones to instantly access detailed species information, including scientific and common names as well as ecological benefits. By seamlessly integrating technology with environmental science, ASSCAT transforms its green spaces into an interactive and engaging educational hub.

Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, the Tree ID tagging advances SDG 4 (Quality Education) by promoting interactive and technology-driven learning, supports SDG 13 (Climate Action) by raising awareness of trees’ vital role in climate resilience, and contributes to SDG 15 (Life on Land) by encouraging biodiversity conservation and responsible environmental stewardship.

This also forms part of ASSCAT’s entry to the February Tree Hugging Campaign spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), highlighting the institution’s active participation in national efforts to promote tree protection and environmental responsibility.

Through this innovative approach, ASSCAT continues to cultivate not only knowledge but also a deeper sense of environmental responsibility, proving that with one simple scan, awareness can grow into meaningful action.
